Somatic Attachment Therapy
for grief + loss. trauma. anxiety. distress about the world. the motherhood journey. shifting negative patterns. changing how the past lives in you.
Welcome. I’m Teddy.
A forest-walker, a grief-tender, a dog-lover, mama to three young adults, a caregiver for my own mother, a deeply caring human.
Growth can be messy and humbling. Along my own healing path I have taken many risks, stumbled, and reminded myself over and over again to return to self-compassion. Through it all I’ve come alive in ways I never thought I could.
I’ve committed to studying the cutting-edge therapies that have made the most difference in my life, because I feel a deep sense of purpose when I share them with others-and they work!
Somatic Experiencing heals the nervous system and resolves trauma from the past. AEDP supports clients to access and transform difficult emotions, rewire patterns that aren’t working, and build new coping skills. Transpersonal theory rewires neural pathways in our brains for a new relationship with self and others.
I support my clients with humility, flexibility and encouragement. We laugh together and make space for tears when they come. Clients tell me I am deeply present, warm, and that I create safety for them.
To move into a life of possibility, sometimes we need a hand to help us find the light and start to flourish. I’m here to offer that hand to you. You can read more about me here.
If you’d like to explore how we might collaborate on your growth, I invite you to contact me for a 20-minute no-charge consultation so you can get a sense of me and if we would be a good fit. You can reach me at teddykellamtherapy@gmail.com
Integrative
Therapy Sessions
Are you struggling with a dilemma, or wishing to shift negative patterns in your life?
I am a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor and a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (c) trained in AEDP attachment therapy as well as transpersonal psychology. Through an integration of these powerful approaches I can guide and support you to make changes in your nervous system, within your relationships, and on the physical level. The work is creative, heart-centered, and very connecting. Your story matters to me - and that said, we’ll go to deeper levels than talk therapy, to get to the roots of what is causing suffering in your life.
Clients tend to come to me to work with traumas in their lives, grief + losses, anxiety, for support in parenting and on the on the motherhood journey, to shift negative patterns around addiction + body image, and to rewire patterns in relationships that are no longer working.
Please feel welcome to contact me for a no-charge consultation to see if I might be a good fit for you. My rate for a one-hour therapy session is $120, and i offer temporary sliding scale rates for people experiencing hardship
I see clients in-person in Cowichan Bay, BC as well as online. and I would be honoured to walk this path with you! Contact me at teddykellamtherapy@gmail.com
Body-centered
Somatic Experiencing
f you have tried other types of therapy but you did not make the progress you were hoping for, Somatic Experiencing can get to the roots of old and deep patterns that you wish to change. Somatic Experiencing changes how the past lives inside you. It is helpful for stress, shock and trauma: from PTSD, anxiety, grief, chronic pain, past childhood abuse, the lingering effects of accidents and falls, developmental trauma, preparing for or recovering from surgeries and medical procedures, and more.
Somatic Experiencing sessions are quite slow and intentionally detailed, as I guide you through past traumatic experiences “bit by bit” to allow you to release braced or pent-up activation in a gentle and intentional way. We start by identifying and strengthening internal and external resources that bring you a sense of safety or grounding (anything from a warm cup of tea to a memory to a supportive person in your life) to increase your resilience from the get-go, and to provide a foundation of resilience so you can more safely and effectively process difficult experiences that you’d like to have release their hold on you. When we work through those kinds of experiences or traumas alone, we tend to overwhelm ourselves - but when we move through them in a skillful, supported way (moving from stress to resource, back and forth), we expand the window of tolerance which builds more capacity to hold heavy emotions and to better cope with difficult situations.
During sessions we will focus on messages from the body, paying close attention to “track” sensations, movements, images, and emotions that can give us clues about what your nervous system is holding onto and what it wants to release. While your brain may know that you are relatively safe as you go about your daily life , your nervous system may not have “gotten the memo” that you are okay. Past experiences - things that were too much, too soon, too fast or that left you alone without support - can keep you in chronic fight, flight or freeze responses. Those responses can show up as anxiety, numbness, depression, and struggles in close relationships.
Somatic Experiencing is helpful for stress, shock and trauma: from PTSD, anxiety, grief, chronic pain, past childhood abuse, witnessing violence or being attacked, the lingering effects of accidents and falls, developmental trauma, preparing for or recovering from surgeries and medical procedures, and more.
